Cara is the co-founder of Big Girls, Small Kitchen a food website for twenty-something cooks looking for user-friendly, affordable ways to navigate their kitchens. The first post went live in November, 2008. In 2012, Saveur selected Big Girls, Small Kitchen as one of the best cooking blogs on the web.
Her first, co-authored cookbook is called In The Small Kitchen: 100 Recipes From Our Year of Cooking in the Real World and was published in May 2011 by the William Morrow imprint at HarperCollins, with a foreword by Ina Garten. In the Small Kitchen is in its second printing.
In March 2011, Cara and her partner launched Small Kitchen College, the first community-based website of its kind to focus entirely on college cooking, eating, and food. The contributors include over 30 undergraduate journalists, chefs, and tastemakers from schools across the country.

Big Girls, Small Kitchen has a commanding influence on twitter, facebook, and pinterest. Cara built up the site's twitter following to over 7500 followers and credits a strong social media presence for increased traffic, book sales, and advertising opportunities.
